#195. Find out where the unit of measurement “hogshead” originated from.

The Head of a Hog

I looked and looked for the origin of hogshead, and it wasn't very interesting. A hogshead is a cask for alcohol or a unit of measure. The many websites that I perused seemed unsure on the origin. From what I could gather, there was never an actual hogshead used to hold alcohol. One site said the term hogshead is actually a corruption of oxhead which actually makes more sense. A hogs head could never hold as much liquid as the measurement suggests. An oxhead might be a little bit closer. Anyway, that's about all that is interesting about the origination of hogshead.
